Dear Friends,
This preaching plan covers very different months. We first engage in Advent services, with carol services weaved in between, all leading to the celebration of Christmas Day itself – and the opening of gifts. I'm reminded that a friend's daughter has on her gift list, a super-hero cape. The busyness of the season can lead us to sometimes thinking we ourselves need a cape! The truth is though that our super-hero is Jesus himself and, this year we are encouraged to "hush the noise" that our busyness can bring, to focus on the ultimate Christmas gift any of us can receive. We unwrap the priceless, peaceful, presence of Jesus once again into our lives, and looking forward to the changes that he brings.
You will see that a change has already happened in the appearance of the preaching plan. The reason for this is, that as from 1st September 2024, some of the chapels in our circuit came together under the umbrella of the Peak Methodist Church. We have let go of our super-hero capes and, instead of working separately across the circuit, join together in order that we can focus better on discipleship and missional activities. We will work closely with Fountain Square which is also a United Reform Church. Hathersage and Sparrowpit will focus on discipleship and missional activities as chapels within the circuit.
Whether we've "turned pink" or not, we move together into January and the new year. United in faith we will recommit ourselves to God in our Covenant Services and say that demanding, challenging, emotional prayer, The Covenant Prayer.
As we journey onwards together may the priceless, peaceful, presence of our perfect parent God and of Jesus our precious Saviour and of the Holy Spirit our powerful super-hero cape enabler, be your blessing in these days.
