Hathersage Methodist Church at the Village Gala

4-11 July is Hathersage Village Gala week and the Methodist Church has been joining in the fun. We had a great turnout for the Well Blessing service on the church drive on 5 July, which included some songs from the Junior Church Choir, reminding us of all the reasons to be grateful for water. This year's Gala theme is 'TV Adverts' and the church's scarecrow (Captain Birdseye) will be on duty outside the front doors til 13 July – do take a look if you are passing. Hathersage Messy Church team will be running a stall with lots of hands-on activities and a treasure hunt at the Gala Field on Saturday 11 July from 1.30 to 4.30pm.

Football month in The Book Room

The men's football World Cup is in full swing and The Book Room (the second-hand bookshop in Hathersage Methodist Church) is marking this with a display of football themed books, plus some related activities in the church including a mini table football game! It's now 12 months since the 'open church' and bookshop project started in Hathersage, and in that time we've had over 16,000 visits (around 300 per week) and sold over 6,000 books. Lots of visitors have paused for a prayer or a moment of quiet, and to find out more about the church by looking at the displays or chatting to congregation members. We are very grateful for all the book donations which are keeping the bookshop going – books can be dropped off in the church vestibule any day 9am to 5pm.

Local Congregation Members at Methodist Conference

Several people from our Circuit attended the Methodist Conference in Telford last week. A big shout-out to Hugo Hildred, member at Hathersage Methodist Church, who was one of the Youth Reps bringing the young people's voice to this year's Conference.

A busy morning at Hathersage Repair Cafe

Hathersage Repair Cafe (run by volunteers from the Anglican and Methodist Churches) welcomed lots of visitors to the session on 27 June, with 58 people through the door and 64 items repaired. The Repair Cafe is a great opportunity to 'be good news' in our community, promoting a culture of repair and re-use, to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and to help cut the environmental costs of buying new stuff. Hathersage Repair Cafe will be celebrating its 5th birthday at the next session on Saturday 10 October 9.45-12.15.
