The Peak Circuit is hosting an Eclipse Viewing Party & BBQ on Wed 12th August from 5:30pm to 8:30pm at Peak Methodist Church – Castleton. Food will be provided but donations towards cost is welcomed. Please bring along your family & friends.

News from The Hub at Hope August 2026
We’ve had a busy few months being out and about walking or cycling or just sitting!In June we were out and about in the nature reserve “up Pindale”. As we shared Holy Communion, we looked around us and considered the walk that the Disciples had with Jesus and the questions they asked him. We wondered about questions we might ask him. What would you ask? To help in our reflections we looked at the calling of the first disciples in John’s Gospel. They asked where he was going to which he responded, “come and see.” And they followed him.
On our WhatsApp group, we were also asked to pray for asylum seekers and refugees in Sheffield as there was a far right march planned to go past their accommodation. How much do we believe in the power of prayer? In our homes, on our walks, as we cycled, the Hub community, along with others, prayed for the safety of these vulnerable people. We prayed for rain so that the demonstrators might stay away. Rain wasn’t forecast but it “chucked it down” in Sheffield! The protestors in the main stayed away but more than 200 people supporting the refugees turned up! A question for Jesus here could be, what would he have done?
At the beginning of Wakes Week, we stayed in Chapel – for a while! We thought about thankfulness and wrote cards to various people. Some of those cards went to people who do so much to sustain the wonderful community spirit in Hope. We then delivered our cards and walked round the village, talking about the Wells and praying for that evening as the Wells were blessed.
At our last meeting we had a go at playing Junior Pictionary to help us try and work out how much of the picture (or the pathway ahead of us), we need to know to trust in God and move into unknown territory. We’ve been thinking about this particularly at our more reflective evening services. Some of you will know that we’ve had to close the hall as there’s been a water ingress and the floor is damaged. This has meant that we’ve had to close our Youth Drop-In and move the Toddler Group to Castleton Methodist Church. We’ve also met at Hope Playground where we enjoyed jam sandwiches and Pom Bears! Despite the move of venue, the Toddler Group continues to thrive. We’ve welcomed new parents and babies and said farewell to Toddlers that are no longer Toddlers as they’re on their way to “big school” in September. To help them in their journey and the questions they might have we gave them a “Get Ready To Go” to school book. Toddlers is closed for the summer, re-starting in September.
These changes, together with Jonathan Brook stepping down from his Pioneer Minister role, has led us to look internally and externally as to what our next steps of growth might look like. We are thankful to Jonathan for the seed that he sowed 6 years ago and the gentleness of his nurture. We’re now at a liminal moment at The Hub. We don’t know the full picture at all and we’re a little bit nervous but, more than that, we’re excited to continue being part of God’s mission here in Hope.
We continue to meet on the 2nd and 4th Sunday’s, 10.30am gathering at the chapel first, and on the 3rd Sunday evening, 7.30pm for quiet reflective worship. Everyone is welcome to come and see! If you’d like to find out more about The Hub please do get in touch with either myself or Jonathan Brook.

Sunday Club bunting
Hathersage Methodist Church runs a children's Sunday Club (for ages 2 to 12) during the weekly 10.30am Sunday service with crafts, games, stories and songs. The creative kids in the Sunday Club group have recently designed some fabulous new bunting for the church (pictured).
Sunday Club is continuing each week through the summer – new children welcome!
Winnie the Pooh Month' in the Book Room
2026 marks the 100th anniversary of AA Milne publishing the very first Winnie the Pooh book. Few children’s books have had such an enduring appeal – stories centred around simple joys, steadfast companionship and a gentle exploration of different personalities.
Throughout August The Book Room (the second-hand bookshop in Hathersage Methodist Church) has a display of Winne the Pooh and other AA Milne books to browse or buy. There is also a ‘Poohsticks’ communal jigsaw on the go, and other Winnie the Pooh children’s activities for visitors.
Church and bookshop open daily 9am-5pm. We welcome donations of books which can be dropped in the church whenever it is open.
The Story Cafe

Derbyshire Rural Chaplaincy
Did you know our Chaplains can offer pastoral and spiritual support to those working in agricultural and rural settings, regardless of whether or not they have a Christian faith, or indeed any faith. Amongst other things we:
- Are a consistent and trusted Christian presence in Bakewell Livestock Market every week and at agricultural shows and other events inspiring mission, worship and faith
- Take weddings, baptisms, and funerals by invitation, in partnership with local rural churches
- Support special acts of worship across Derbyshire including a Carol Service in the main store ring at Bakewell Livestock Market – taking place on Sunday 6th December this year.
- Host a short service of worship and prayer in the conference room at Bakewell Agricultural Centre every month with our farmers. You are welcome to join us at 10am on Monday 5th October and Monday 2nd November.
- Send out our “DRC News” magazine to farmers across the county.
- Support a number of farming related services throughout the year such as Plough Sunday, Rogation, Lammas, Harvest Festivals and Young Farmers’ Club services.
- We also hold our own Harvest Supper each autumn to celebrate the farming year with stories of faith and hymns, and every summer we organise a farm visit which usually includes a walk or a fun stock judging event and a free supper.
Derbyshire Rural Chaplaincy is run by Lead Agricultural Chaplain Rev. Phil Michell along with Agricultural Chaplains Alison Fletcher and Rev. Pete Evens. They are assisted by three volunteers in the farm support team.
