Records show that the chapel, was opened in December 1860 as The Primitive Methodist Chapel. It is thought that a Primitive Methodist Society had been in existence in Calver as early as 1822.

The chapel underwent refurbishment in the millennium which allowed greater freedom to hold contemporary services of worship and enhance the building's provision to the village.

Today, whilst the vibrancy of past years may have diminished, the faithfulness of those who remain has not. Contemporary services are now held monthly and, in between, weekly activities see connection with the village through the use of the premises.

During the week you may well find the pilates group meeting. On another evening you will find an orchestra or a choral group. The younger folk aren't forgotten as the Girl Guides use the building too. Neither are the older folk forgotten as the chapel folk run a senior citizens club at which a drink and chat are always on offer.

Prayerful consideration continues as to how the chapel will continue to bring glory to God in the years to come.
